The County Government of Nairobi has announced free parking for all private vehicles on Saturdays. Governor Johnson Sakaja issued a statement on Saturday, announcing the directive for free parking for all private vehicles on Saturdays, effective immediately. The directive is set to last until June 30, 2024, coinciding with the end of the current fiscal year.
Charles Kerich, the Nairobi County Chief Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning, officially gazetted the move, which is seen as a relief for motorists. In accordance with the Nairobi City County Tax Waivers Administration Act, 2013.

“The County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning, in concurrence with the Governor, Nairobi City County, waives parking fees for all private motorists in Nairobi on Saturdays until June 30, 2024,” the Gazette Notice read in part.
Parking near mosques on Fridays during prayer hours has also been exempted since April 2023. Governor Sakaja emphasized the importance of the Friday exemption, stating, "We will allow our brothers and sisters attending prayer services to do so freely. There was no clamping of vehicles at that time."
However, the county government cautioned city residents about potential scams amidst the positive announcement. The county government emphasized that city residents should make all payments related to parking fees strictly through the NairobiPay system, which is cashless.
